It’s been at least a week since he’s moved to a new city. In fact a week and a half considering that he’d had his stuff delivered to his new apartment just as soon as February had started. Kevin he’s attending the university near by and he didn’t want to stay on campus thus here he was, alone in his apartment.

He’d always been a sort of mummy’s boy and sometimes he didn’t like it. Especially on Valentine’s Day when he got gifts from some of the girls at school, his mother would never cease to tease him when he came home with at least two, if not three bags full of goodies. He was going to miss that here.

Just after lunch there was a knock at his door and Kevin stiffened. Who can that be? He hasn’t even met anyone since moving here. Maybe it’s just his mother. Or something she delivered. He checked the calendar as he went to answer the door, 14th February. If it weren’t his mother or something from her he’d be surprised indeed.

To Kevin’s surprise he receives a lovely bouquet of flowers from the postman, under the watchful eye of a neighbor further down. “Strange,” he mutters as he holds the bouquet in one hand, signing for it with the other before kicking the door shut behind him.

As he walks over to the table in the living room, a card falls out. Kevin sets the bouquet down, then bends to pick the card up. Hopefully he can find out the person who decided to send this to him.

Dear Kevin, it began. Okay so the person knew his name.

Happy Valentine’s Day. I was wondering if you might want to go out with me? I couldn’t help but notice you when you moved in the other day. All the boxes were in the hallway and I couldn’t get to my apartment. Your mother was nice enough to help me move them.

Kevin smiled, that sounded like his mom alright overly friendly and way too helpful for her own good sometimes. He continued reading.

Anyway, I’d really like to show you around town so, tell me if you’d like to come with me. Sam.

Below the name was the number of the apartment two doors down. Wasn’t that the artist guy with the shaggy hair that he’d seen staring at him a few times before? Kevin thought him to be very hot but then he’d given up because he didn’t know if he liked him back. Who knew that he did?

When he’d finally made up his mind, Kevin checked himself in the mirror making sure he looked presentable before he headed out of the apartment and down the hallway to find Sam.

------

Sam paced the length of the room once more. Fifteen minutes. That was how much time that had passed since he’d seen Kevin receive the flowers. Maybe he’d thought wrong, maybe Kevin wasn’t interested in him. A soft knock on the door stopped him in his tracks. Could it be?

He rushed over to the door, took a deep breath and opened it seeing Kevin there, holding the card. His heart stopped.

“Hi,” Kevin said a small shy smile on his lips.

“Hi,” Sam squeaked a reply as he leaned against the door, supporting himself. Kevin was actually here. He swallowed, “So you got the card,” he said nodding his head, stating the obvious. He wanted to sock himself for saying something so stupid but he was nervous and he couldn’t think of anything else but that.

“Yeah. I got the card,” Kevin replied as he averted his eyes, “You wanted to show me around town?”

Sam smiled, “Yeah,” he answered. It was actually a date but…well he’d chickened out and gave the excuse of showing Kevin around town instead, “If you’re free that is,” he added giving a nervous laugh. Thank god Kevin looked just as nervous as him from the way he fidgeted.

“I’m free tonight. If you’re free maybe…y’know…” Kevin trailed off.

“Yes. Tonight. I’m free,” Sam said grinning now.

“Great, alright. I’ll um…see you tonight?” Kevin asked as he backed away now his insides turning to mush at the thought of tonight and Sam. He looked really cute up close he also had a really nice smile. And really nice hair.

Sam nodded, “Yep, about seven-ish?”

“Sure,” Kevin said as he continued walking backwards towards his apartment. He didn’t want to look away from Sam for a moment. He gave another nervous smile.

“Oh Kevin wait!”

Kevin stopped, raising a brow at Sam. “What?”

Before he knew it, Sam had run out of his apartment, gripped his wrist and leant in to kiss him squarely on the lips before he pulled back just as quickly. He felt his cheeks burning bright red, his heart pounding hard in his chest. He bit his lower lip as he lowered his gaze, shy. Sam kissed him! He’d actually kissed him right there in the hallway!

“Happy Valentine’s Day,” Sam said, slipping his hand into Kevin’s and squeezing it gently before he let go, “I’ll see you later,” he murmured watching as Kevin nodded seemingly in a trance before he headed into his apartment.

Sam was sure that they would enjoy tonight. He’d better go and get ready.
