 Genre Swap

For this main round, we’d like to see you take SPN and turn it on its head by changing the genre completely. Choose your favorite genre (or just one you think would be cool) and ruthlessly throw your ship (and any other characters you’d like) into an AU based on that genre. To clarify, they should always have existed within this genre in the context of your story--this shouldn’t be a French Mistake sort of deal. You are also welcome to blend genres, if you choose, so long as those genres aren't the same as SPN's.

This prompt is open to your interpretation, but if you need ideas, here are some things to consider:

• What challenges will this genre pose for your characters? What’s the conflict?

• What roles do your characters play in this new setting?

• How will their respective backgrounds have changed? How will this change their personality?

• What is your ship’s new relationship in the context of this new genre?

  • Are they enemies or allies?

  • Have they even met prior to the start of the story?

Entries can be produced by any member of the team, or by the entire team in collaboration. Main Rounds can be in any media, but some media have restrictions.

• Written entries must be between 1000 and 4000 words.

• Graphical entries should be no longer than 10 images/panels.

• Written AND graphical entries should be between 1000 and 4000 and have no more than 4 images.

If your text is somehow embedded in an image, you must include a transcript of the text.

The deadline for Main Round 1 is October 20th. We’re working on creating a MR1 comm, team leaders should receive invites shortly.

Remember to keep all entries anonymous until after voting is over for this round.

What's the preferred method for submitting an entry anonymously? Just as an anon DW comment, or pastebin, or?

Team leaders may submit entries without going on anon, but they should not reveal who on the team played what part in making the entry until after the voting is over.

Hello hello, just a quick question about the main entries.

Providing we keep to the graphic and word limit - how many different elements can be incorporated into one entry?

I see that last year some entries contained several items (fic, fanmix, and graphic) and I wanted to see what the restrictions on that would be.

Just to give an example - if we had a ficlet within the word limit, with a fanmix, a main graphic/cover art, and secondary images/scans of other things related to the project (like embroidery or a sculpture but all together still under the graphic limit of 4) and all of it came together as one cohesive entry - how many different elements could we include?

EDIT: Wait. I see under the rules it does say no more than 2 media, is this a new restriction created for this years competition?

I believe that restriction was in place last year as well. The thing that's confusing you might be the fact that coverart for a fanmix doesn't count as a separate media. The mods are discussing this, but, unless told otherwise, assume the rules stand.
