Fill, Team Balthazar/Castiel, Valentine's Flowers

Office!AU-ish | Pairing: Balthazar/Castiel

------

It all started on the morning of Valentine’s Day. Castiel received the first rose from the cashier after he picked up his usual morning yirgacheffe coffee. “For me?” he asked, rather bewildered as he looked at the single rose stalk. He knew it was Valentine’s Day but he didn’t expect to get anything from a random stranger.

“Someone came and left a note with the instructions to give it to the first person who ordered a yirgacheffe and that’s you sir,” the barista told him.

“Oh…did you see the person?” Castiel asked, he’s totally curious now. It is his first time getting a rose on Valentine’s Day.

The barista shook his head, “Nope. I was cleaning the table when I saw the rose and the note…”

“Well…thanks anyway,” Castiel said as he took the rose and his yirgacheffe and left.

The second rose appeared on his desk just after ten when he returned from the photocopying machine. Attached to it was a little tag with a typed note: ‘Happy Valentine’s Day Castiel.’

Castiel popped over the partition, “Gabe,” he hissed showing his colleague the rose, “Look, I got another one…did you see anyone passing by here today?”

Gabriel took off his headphones, smirking, “Well it’s about time you had a secret admirer,” he said genuinely happy that Castiel was receiving these gifts. “And no, I didn’t see anyone passing by here today.”

“Okay…well…the person whoever it may be better show himself quick,” Castiel muttered as he sat back down and continued to type his documents. He knew for sure that the person, his ‘secret admirer’ knew who he was already and he probably worked in the same company as him.

Just before lunch, Castiel found a third rose on his desk when he came back from the supplies room with a new stapler in hand. The rose was tagged with a typed note as well. This one read: ‘Patience is a virtue Castiel, one I’m sure I’d be happy to teach you.’

Castiel felt the colour rise to his cheeks. Damn. This person clearly knew how to seduce someone. He set the rose down together with the other two stalks in the corner of his workspace. Then putting his computer into sleep mode he headed down to the lobby where Gabriel and the rest of them were waiting for him.

They were all seated at the table just about to take their orders when Balthazar rushed into the restaurant, he flashed them a grin and waved from the counter. “I’m with them,” he yelled to the lady as he jogged up to their table and slid smoothly into the seat beside Castiel.

“Sorry I’m late Cassie,” he muttered, grinning at him, as he settled in and took up his menu.

“No problem, Gabriel just started to order,” Castiel said as he shifted a little when Balthazar’s leg brushed against his. The seat was cramped enough yet he’s chosen to squeeze in here. Balthazar worked in the law department and Castiel saw him at least twice a week when they had lunch together. Castiel was sort of attracted to his ‘bad boy’ side but he never actually voiced anything out. He kept it all to himself.

“I hate it when I have to finish up extra work for the boss,” Balthazar sighed as he fiddled with the bottle of ketchup, “that’s the main reason why I’m always late.”

“So did you get any Valentine’s gifts?” Gabriel who was sitting across them asked.

“Ugh tons!” Balthazar said, “Women just love to bake and cook and all. I’ve got brownies, cakes, pies and the works. It’s like someone decided to have a potluck at my house,” he said laughing.

Castiel laughed along with him, silently wishing that he had had the courage to make something too…

“Oh our Castiel got three roses since this morning,” Gabriel gushed.

“That true now Cassie?” Balthazar asked turning his gaze on him.

Castiel nodded, “Yeah. The third one was pretty saucy.”

“Oh look, you’ve got another one,” Gabriel chimed in as one of the waiter’s came forward, holding a rose. This one didn’t have any tag. But it had a gold ribbon.

“That’s the fourth one today…” Castiel sighed as he held the stalk in hand, swirling it around and watching the ribbons spin.

“The admirer must really like you,” Gabriel said with a cheeky grin.

“Or he’s just a hopeless romantic,” Castiel added smiling, “I swear. I’ll get to the bottom of this before the day is over.”

At tea break there was another rose on his desk when he came back from the washroom. The fifth stalk. It had a little card attached to it: ‘Roses are red, your eyes are blue, how about a date? Just me and you?’

“Would you look at this,” Castiel said, he didn’t recognize the handwriting at all, “Gabriel, the person actually wrote!” he said.

“Here’s to progress,” Gabriel said as he studied the card, “Do you know who it’s from?”

Castiel shrugged, “Not a clue. But I can bet there’s going to be more. This admirer of mine likes to play games.”

“Do you have anyone in mind though?” Gabriel asked as he stood to stretch now.

“I’d like to think Samandriel, but I doubt he’s the saucy kind,” Castiel said as he ruled out the young intern.

“How about Michael?” Gabriel asked nodding his head in the direction of the person he mentioned who just so happened to leave his office at that moment.

“Definitely not. Bosses don’t hit on their staff,” Castiel whispered, watching until Michael was out of range before he continued, “besides, Michael isn’t my type.”

“All this talk about secret admirers is making me hungry, I’m gonna go to the canteen to get something, do you want anything?”

Castiel shook his head, “No thanks. I’m going to stay here, maybe not. I’m going to go to the printing room, to get something printed.”

Castiel sat back down now as he looked at the handwritten card again. He still didn’t have any idea who the person was. But he’d devised a plan. Whoever the person was, he or she knew him well enough to know his schedule inside and out. He’d had it sort of planned out. Quickly he took a marker and a post it note and scrawled a huge ‘Yes’ on the post it before he tore it off and stuck it on the card. He left the fifth rose there then gathered his things and headed for the printing room.

Now the printing room wasn’t that far from his desk, he could keep an eye out for whomever who dropped by his desk. He pretended to be focusing on the screen of the printer, selecting the documents to print. His eyes ready to dart back up once he noticed movement.

The moment he saw a blur of blonde in his peripheral vision, he looked up.

Castiel froze a shiver of delight coursing through him at the sight. He bolted out of the room and ran straight towards his cubicle.

“Balthazar! I knew it!” Castiel said grinning, his cheeks flushed with colour as he averted his eyes.

“Damn,” he cursed flashing his signature smile, “looks like you caught your hopeless romantic,” he said quoting Castiel’s words over lunch, “I knew I should have been more careful. Gabriel said you were going to the printing room, so I thought I’d drop by. Looks like you were really determined to catch me.”

“I’ve never…I mean…you’re actually the first person who’s gone to such a huge trouble for me on Valentine’s Day…and I think what you did was sweet. And Gabriel! I should have known he was helping you, that little liar!”

“He’s a convincing actor,” he said then paused, “So you’ll go out with me then Cassie?” Balthazar asked as he reached to take Castiel’s hand in his, he was nervous for some reason.

Castiel nodded, “Definitely. Shall we leave now?”

Balthazar laughed as he leaned in and dropped a kiss to Castiel’s forehead; he had wanted to do that for a while. He adored Castiel. “Like I said, I think I’m really going to need to teach you all about patience.”

“What better time than now?” Castiel replied grinning, he’d never been quite so eager about anything before. Just the fact that Balthazar had actually been his secret admirer made Castiel’s insides turn to mush.

“You’re asking for it Cassie,” he growled leaning in as he encircled Castiel in his arms.

Boldly Castiel pressed his lips to Balthazar in a kiss as he whispered against his lips, “Yes. I am. And you’re going to give it to me because you’re my Valentine.”
