“This is supposed to be their wedding,” Dean said as he sat himself down beneath the cover of the gazebo, Benny following him up the steps, “what are we doing here and not out there partying with them?”
“Look I’ve got something to tell you,” Benny said and he was all serious-like now.
Dean raised a brow, Benny always came off as stoic but this was different, it seemed over the top stoic and Dean was beginning to feel a bit intimidated by it all. He hoped it wasn’t something bad. He knew that it couldn’t be anything blood related seeing as he’d fed Benny just the other night. They’d been together for a while now and…not just as brothers in arms but something so much more.
“Okay,” Dean said adopting Benny’s serious attitude, “I’m all ears.”
Benny heaved a huge sigh, sticking his hands into his pockets. His right hand brushed against the velvet box. This is it. He’s going to ask Dean. His fingers tighten around the box about to take it out–
Sam and Castiel came from out of nowhere, pulling Dean with them, “You’re going to dance mister!” Sam was saying.
“Sorry Benny but Sam really wanted to see Dean dance, I hope you don’t mind!” Castiel apologizes as they headed towards the main tentage.
“Yeah sure…” Benny mutters scrubbing at his neck now as he sighed, watching as Dean was taken away from him. God. He’d been this close!
Silently Benny followed the trio back to the tentage. This was Sam and Castiel’s wedding, shouldn’t the two of them be off being lovey-dovey with one another? Instead Sam and Castiel were taking turns dancing with Dean who by the looks of it was enjoying himself dancing with them. They looked happy and Benny felt like he was an outsider.
He shouldn’t be feeling this way. Dean was his. His date, his lover. His.
‘And soon to be wife,’ Benny thought smirking to himself.
Benny heads over to where the blonde haired girl is, Jo, he recalls Dean telling him. She is with another woman, red headed, Castiel’s sister or something like that or so he’d heard. They are the ones in charge of the music at this party. As he approaches they look up.
“Jo,” he says in greeting and looks expectantly to the redheaded woman.
“Anna,” she offers and he nods at her in greeting.
“What are you doing over here? Aren’t you supposed to be with Dean?” Jo asks him.
“Yeah, well…” he says directing Jo’s gaze to where Dean was.
Jo whistled, “They look like they’re having fun.”
Benny had an idea then, “Would you…play something slow?”
“Sure. Anything for a friend of Dean’s,” she says wagging her eyebrows.
Jo is very cheeky. He’ll give her that. Benny quickly makes his way through the crowd and to the center where Sam, Dean and Castiel are just as Jo announces the slow dance and the soft music begins to play.
“May I have this dance?” Benny asked, tapping Dean on the shoulder and offering his hand.
Dean smirked, “Thought you’d never ask,” he said as he waved Sam off and took Benny’s hand. He found comfort in Benny’s arms, this was where he belonged with Benny.
They were in the center of the crowd of people when Benny stopped dancing. Dean looked at him. Wanting to ask what was wrong. Then he saw Benny get down on one knee and his eyes widened, his breath leaving him in a rush. 'Holy hell, this is not happening!'
“Benny…” he whispers his eyes darting around, all eyes are on them now and Dean gulps. He’s never had to deal with attention like this and he can feel his face turning red right to the tips of his ears.
Benny takes the velvet box from his pocket and opens it up, revealing a simple gold band. “Dean,” he begins taking the hunter’s callused hand in his own, “I’m sure you know what I’m going to ask,” he says as he laughs nervously, he sees Dean nod.
“Good. Will you marry me Dean Winchester?” he asks, “Because I’m sure that I can take care of you better than your brother or Castiel,” he adds to which soft laughter ripples through the crowd gathered around them, “I promise to protect you-”
“Yes, yes, yes,” Dean is saying, holding the freaking floodgates back as he blinks back tears of joy. “Don’t get all cheesy now,” he whispers as Benny smiling, slips the gold band onto his finger and then stands.
Applause erupt around them and they hug, then Dean leans in to kiss Benny hard on the lips. So this was the reason why Benny had seemed so on edge the whole evening.
“I love you, Benny Lafitte,” Dean whispered against the vampire’s lips, so softly so that no one else would hear but his beloved.
To think that he, Dean Winchester would be married soon. It was a gift indeed.
