Bonus Round 1

Bonus Round 0 is now closed, and Bonus Round 1 is now open! Let's get creating, shall we?

This round, the theme is book-based AUs.

If you have an idea for something you'd like to see, please leave a book title, the characters involved, and any other details as a PROMPT below. Then read through everyone else's prompts, and leave a FILL for any which catch your eye. Fills can be in any media, and they need not be long, but please put a little effort in--if anyone starts spamming this post for points, we'll be able to tell.

You should place PROMPT/FILL, your current team affiliation and a brief summary in the comment title. NSFW prompts and fills should mention this in the summary or at the top of the post.

You will be awarded five points per prompt for the first five prompts you leave. The first three fills posted for each prompt will receive 15 points, the next three 10 points, and the next three 5 points. Prompts with ten or more fills will no longer receive fill points.

Bonus rounds are still rarepair only, but you can post prompts or fills for any rare ship this round, including gen/platonic ones (which should be indicated with an & as above). However, you may not fill your own prompt. We also encourage people not to fill prompts from their teammates, although the points will not be deducted if you do.

Bonus round fills can include links provided they are publicly viewable. Works can also be cross-posted to other websites, as there is no anonymity requirement in bonus rounds. However, works posted directly to comments will be limited to 16,000 characters by the Dreamwidth comment limit. Longer works should therefore be divided between multiple comments.

Remember, Team Chuck can participate in bonus rounds, and if you change teams, points earned will transfer with you until the end of the team shuffle period.

This round will close on October 6.

PROMPT: Team Bobby/Sam; The Secret Garden AU

I'd love to see Dean as Mary in The Secret Garden! And how about Sam is Colin, and Benny is Dickon. It could even be Dean/Benny. I'd love to see just a snippet of Benny helping Dean loosen up and one of Dean realizing how much Sam means to him and helping him loosen up too.

And you know what? Set it in the damn bayou. I have spoken.

I'm kidding about the "I have spoken." If you want to take liberty with any of this, please do. But Mary should be Dean.

I hope this counts as a fill. I hope you like it! :)
------

“I do,” he said taking the ring from him, grinning at him as he slipped it on to the blonde woman’s finger. Dean was smiling sweetly at his wife, Joanna Beth Harvelle or as Dean called her, Jo. Dean was happy, that was all that mattered to Benny.

After the ceremony, they proceeded to take pictures in the churchyard.

“Benny! Quick! One more shot!” Dean called as he grabbed him back and pulled him closer. He could still smell the scent of soap on Dean. The man sure had scrubbed up good. He looked stunningly handsome. He didn’t say anything but smiled for the camera as it captured the moment.

He stared at the picture now; the groom and all his groomsmen were in this shot. This was his favorite photo out of all that had been mailed to him. It had been a week since the wedding and he still couldn’t get over it. Dean was a married man. His eyes caught the way the corners of Dean’s eyes crinkled as he smiled, something that he liked ever since they were just young boys. Next to Dean on the other side was Sam. The once sickly boy had grown tall and strong, taller than Dean even.

It seemed like just yesterday that they were young boys, chasing each other in the secret garden in Misselthwaite Manor. Laughter filling the hot afternoons as they played together, Sam joining in later when Dean managed to coax him out. He closed his eyes, he could still remember the when Dean shared the secret of the garden with him. Just him.
------

Dean’s green eyes sparkled with mischief as he pulled him aside.

“Promise me you won’t tell anyone okay?” he whispered.

“Alright. I promise,” he says, eager to know what it is that Dean was hiding.

The boy pulled out a key on a leather strap around his neck, “It’s the key to the garden,” Dean said, showing it to him, “I want you to come to the garden. It’ll be our little secret, you can’t tell anyone.”

Benny nodded; glad that he would get to share Dean’s company. Glad that there was something that he could proudly call his own.
------

It was hard at first, talking to Dean. He wasn’t one of the most pleasant young boys. But slowly and surely Benny had earned Dean’s trust, teaching him how to trap spiders, how to coax birds to you and carry them. It was through their love for animals that Benny slowly began to realize that he enjoyed Dean’s company.

It evolved to more than that later on as they grew into young men.

Dean and Sam couldn’t play with him as much as before being confined to the house for their lessons now. Of course Dean, being the fidgety and adventurous person that he was, would sneak away sometimes when he found the lessons boring. And on those days, Dean would come to him to spend time with him. Benny smiled, lying back in bed as he relived the memory again.
------

“Psst, Benny!” a voice hissed. Benny looked up from mixing the horse feed when he found no one he continued his work. But the voice called to him again and when he looked up, he found Dean standing there smiling at him.

“Dean?” he says almost too loud that the boy had to shush him, “What are you doing here? Aren’t you having lessons with your tutor?”

Dean laughed, “Bobby’s lessons got boring. Let’s go for a swim.”

“Swim?” Benny asked standing now as he went to pour the horse feed into the troughs.

“Yeah, down by the lake out back.”

“Won’t you get scolded?” Benny asked he knew how harsh his tutor was and he didn’t want Dean getting into any unnecessary trouble.

Dean rolled his eyes and groaned as he lumbered towards him, prying the bucket from his hand, “I’ve been through that so many times I don’t give a damn.” Then he took his hand, “Now come on.”

They ran out of the back gate, headed down to the lake. Benny still shocked that they were holding hands. His stomach did little flops now as he came to the realization that they were going to be alone by the lake. God he was nervous being alone with Dean for some reason. They slowed when they came to the pier. The water was so blue, glistening under the sun like the facets of a diamond. It was beautiful.

“Would you look at that!” Dean said, his voice full of awe as he began to undress, pulling off his waistcoat and tossing it aside as he started on his shirt, “Definitely worth skipping lessons to come here.”

Benny followed suit, undressing as well until they were just dressed in just their drawers. They took a running jump off the pier and into the water. Benny surfaced, taking in air as he treaded water looking around and waiting for Dean to resurface. Dean was nowhere to be found.

“Dean?” he called. There was no reply. “Dean!” as the moments dragged on he felt the fear rise in his throat. “Dean where-“ he spluttered as he was pulled beneath the surface. As he opened his eyes he glared at Dean who was smirking, bubbles leaving his mouth. He shook his head and swam back to the surface, Dean following after him.

“That wasn’t funny Dean!” he said as he gasped for air, Dean beside him laughing. He was truly worried that something might have happened to the other boy.

“Yes it was! Your face was all like,” Dean mimed what he looked like.

Benny splashed water at him, “Hell, I don’t look like that.”

Dean splashed him back and from there it turned into a full out splashing contest.
------

A bitter laugh escaped from him at the memory. Benny felt the ache in his heart. Those were happier times. No, happier times for him. Dean was happier now where he was with Jo. Their marriage unlike all the rest wasn’t arranged for. They married for love.

Dean had asked him to be his best man at the wedding. He’d agreed, glad that he was given the position instead of Sam. Watching Dean say his vows and kiss Jo, Benny knew that he was supposed to be happy but he couldn’t. Not when he too, he who had been with Dean since his boyhood, loved him.

It was sad that Dean had never gotten to know that he was in love with him. But it was all for the better. Things would have gotten ugly if anyone knew and Benny didn’t want that.

All he wanted was for Dean to be happy.

Even if it meant that they could never be together.

Not in this life anyway…
